Shout Out From Sandy -- Carpooling Now

Note to Parents About New Carpool Visuals Dear Parents, In order to help with morning and after-school carpools, we have created a visual chart for classes that are currently carpooling. These visuals are paper classroom mascots that adhere to the first outside pole of the canopy. There is a sign that says, "Carpooling Now." When carpools for the morning start, the first teachers will take out their classroom mascots and adhere them to the pole. (This will be the Yellow Bear and Blue Bear teachers.) When the teachers finish carpool, they will take down their mascots and bring them inside the building. The next group will put up their mascots until the carpool is over . . . . and so on. I

Children's Book Drive

GFCC is sponsoring a book drive in conjunction with Project Enlightenment of Wake County schools. Let’s fill the blue barrels in our hallway with children’s books we no longer need or use. Many children need books in their homes and this is a golden opportunity to help children learn to read and love books! Please help us fill the barrels with gently used Baby and Toddler books, Preschool books, Early Reader books, and books in Spanish.

In Memory of Former GFCC Director, Jean Schilawski

Our GFCC family was saddened to learn that Jean Schilawski died on September 6, 2016. Hear these words from our current director, Sandy Duncan, about Jean Schilawski: Jean was the first director/teacher at Greenwood Forest Children's Center. She was at GFCC for about 18 years before retiring, and then became the director of Christ the King Preschool for another 6 or 7 years. Jean did a wonderful job of getting GFCC started with a firm foundation in curriculum and age level goals. She ran a tight ship but was always ready for a good laugh and a joke. Jean's self-given nickname was "Mean Jean," and she proudly had this on her customized license plate. Jean was one of a kind and will be mis

"Put on a Happy Face!"

Sunshine Bags and Stayin' Alive at GFCC

This week at GFCC, our teachers have returned to their classrooms and are preparing for a great year. On Monday, the teachers and staff were welcomed back with a Bag of Sunshine from our director, Sandy Duncan. She is a very creative and talented lady, and she spoils us with all of her special touches and awesome treats. As the saying goes, Love is in the Details! We all LOVE you too, Sandy! On Tuesday, our staff had CPR training and also learned what to do if someone is choking. From the American Heart Association (AHA): Hard and fast: That's the rule to remember when compressing the chest during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The AHA recommends pressing a depth of at least two i
