Penguin Pilgrims In November

Handwriting Without Tears (HWT): The Penguins practiced how to write the uppercase letters O, Q, C and U using various HWT methods: Using verbal and visual prompts, we learned to write the uppercase letters. We introduced the Magic C Bunny to teach the different uppercase letters that you can write with the letter C. (ex.: C, O, Q, and G) We practiced writing the letters on HWT chalkboards. We used Therapy Dough to continue to strengthen our hands and fingers for proper gripping. We have had fun with our Letterland characters. Dear Parents, First of all, I want to "Thank You" for your participation in the Dr. Bill Jones Scholarship Silent Auction / Raffle. I heard so many wonderful comments from church members and GFCC parents and grandparents about your classroom baskets. Things like: "They are so big and full of really great things." "Such creativity -- I would have never thought to add that item, but it really makes the basket!" "Parents really did a great job." I also want to thank the teachers that assembled their own baskets, the classroom parents who assembled their baskets, and the Raffle Basket Committee (Yuwei Tsang and Amber Rohloff) for the great work done in getting the baskets looking so beautiful!

Last Chance to Bid and Buy Raffle Tickets

Tomorrow morning, Wednesday, November 16 will be: your last chance to place bids on the Silent Auction baskets. If you are wondering if your latest bid has been overbid, stop by the school or call the GFCC office (919-469-0140) to see. your last chance to buy raffle tickets for the Raffle baskets and classroom venue options. Wednesday, November 16 at 10:00 am -- Raffle ticket tubs and Bid Sheets will be collected and winning tickets will be drawn. Winners will be notified within 24 hours.

Coloring with the Crayon Kids

We have been having a lot of fun while learning. During our community helpers unit, we had a visit from the firefighters and learned about all the people that make up our community. This fall, we have also learned about pumpkins, food, and our bodies. Next week we will have our Native American unit and Carlos, a Native American, will be visiting our school to teach us about his culture.

When you enter GFCC, the Silent Auction Bid baskets are located on the first table on the right, under the world map. 2016 Dr. Bill Jones Scholarship Raffle and Silent Auction

The Dr. Bill Jones Raffle and Silent Auction is the main source of income for our GFCC Scholarship Fund. Before school began in August, the classroom teachers chose the classroom theme for their basket. Parents were then asked to donate or solicit donations from local merchants. Baskets were created and a list of its contents and a value of the basket was determined. Baskets will be displayed from Sunday, November 6 to Wednesday, November 16. Fall is SUCH a fun time, especially when you are in the Blue Puppy class!! Our Blue Pups have already been busy learning all kinds of wonderful and interesting things. Backpack Buddies and GFCC

Backpack Buddies Feed the Children Food Drive Greenwood Forest Children's Center is partnering with Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, and Kirk of Kildaire Preschool in the Backpack Buddies program. This ministry helps children at Briarcliff Elementary and Farmington Woods Elementary schools. The donated food helps students who depend on the free breakfast and lunch programs, making sure that they have enough food to eat over the weekends and holidays when they are not at school. We, at GFCC, are very blessed. We would love to help in this ministry because we know children cannot grow and learn as they should if they are hungry. Beginning in November, we

Orange Bear, Orange Bear! What Do You See?

We see Orange Bears playing, and learning, and sharing, and making friends, and having FUN!! The Orange Bears have had a busy fall. They have been: learning about colors and shapes friends and sharing rules at school lacing and matching apples spiders bats State Fair pumpkins. To check in each day, the Orange Bears have worked on their Name Folders to help them spell, trace, match, clip, and write their names. The Orange Bears have graphed their birthdays, the letters of their first names, and their favorite colors and apples. The Orange Bears are learning patterns during their calendar time.

Fall Fun with the Yellow Puppies!!!

Look and see what our class has been up to..... Fall Leaves and Owls We used red, orange and yellow paint and painted fall leaves onto a tree. We made owls from brown paper and decorated them with feathers and big eyes. Did you know that their large eyes help owls to see and hunt at night? Scarecrows and Pumpkins We made cute scarecrows from lunch bags. We made Jack-o-lanterns by painting paper plates with orange paint and adding yellow triangles for a toothy grin. State Fair and Apple Tasting Spin art is so much fun and each painting is unique. Don't forget to look at the picture of our creations below. 2-Hour Delay for Voting Day

Voting Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Wake County Public Schools will have a 2-hour delay. GFCC will also have a 2-hour delay. All children will arrive to school at 11:00 am and go home at 1:00 pm. No Morning Carpool or After School Carpool. Please park and walk your children to their classroom at 11:00. When you return at 1:00, please park and walk to the classroom to pick your children up. Pack your child's lunchbox as they will eat lunch at school.
