Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

March 1, 2019

Today, the Blue Bear and Yellow Bear Transition Kindergarten classes had a fun time celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Here are some facts we learned about Dr. Seuss:

  • Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904.

  • Dr. Seuss was his pen name.

  • His hometown was in the state of Massachusetts.

  • Dr. Seuss is known for his illustrations and books filled with rhyming words.

    • He credits his mother for giving him his creative abilities in this regard.  When he was a little boy, she would recite rhyming chants to soothe him.  These chants were some that she remembered when she was a little girl.

Here are some fun things we did to celebrate Dr. Seuss:

  • Story Time – We read these favorite Dr. Seuss books in class today.

    • The Cat in the Hat

    • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

      • For snack the Bears enjoyed Rainbow Goldfish in honor of this story.

  • Happy Birthday - We used the classroom birthday cake and sang to Dr. Seuss.

Sing-a-Long Songs We enjoyed singing these Dr. Seuss songs to some familiar tunes.

  1. The Cat in the Hat to the tune of The Adam’s Family

  • Chorus:

The cat in the hat  (Snap fingers)  Snap!  Snap!

The cat in the hat   Snap!Snap!

The cat in the hat

The cat in the hat

The cat in the hat   Snap!Snap!

He causes so much fun

But when the fun is done

You will be the one

To send that cat AWAY!

Repeat Chorus

2. Dr. Seuss Is on the Loose to the tune of Old MacDonald

Dr. Seuss is on the loose

And this is how we know.

Cats, hats, eggs and ham

Cats, hats, eggs and ham

Cats, hats, eggs and ham

We love his fun books so!

Dr. Seuss Homework – We enjoyed looking at some favorite Dr. Seuss books and pages from our Blue Bears and Yellow Bears.

Center Time

At Art table we made a Cat-in-the-Hat rhyming word puppet.

These are the rhyming words we used. (at, bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, pat, rat, sat)

Music Time

Our Music Teacher, Mrs. Turner, celebrated Dr. Seuss with us today by dressing up like the Cat in the Hat.

She led us in lots of silly songs, just like the silly books that Dr. Seuss wrote.

Thank you

Dr. Seuss

for writing such wonderful and funny books to help us learn how to read.
