🍎 A Look at GFCC's Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program

🍎 The major goals for all students at GFCC are to feel that school is a fun place to be, to learn that teachers and classmates care about them, and to know that Mom or Dad will always come back at carpool time and take them home.

🍎 The main focus at GFCC for a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) student are:

  • Social Skill Development

  • Family / Community / Country

  • Kindergarten and 1st Grade Handwriting Without Tears

  • Preschool version of Letterland Phonics and Vocabulary (The Wake County Public School System [WCPSS] uses the Letterland program in their classrooms.)

  • Math

  • Science

  • Social Studies

The term TK means "Transitional Kindergarten." This class is for children who just miss the state's age cut-off or are not quite ready for Kindergarten, even though their birthdays are within the state guidelines to attend. Children in the TK program may need a little extra time to master these skills: working through anxiety, controlling melt-downs, learning to be a little more assertive, learning to be a little less aggressive or wiggly, and feeling comfortable in a classroom setting that makes several transitions throughout the day.
