Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
March 2 2016
Today, the Blue Bears at GFCC celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Here are some facts they learned.
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Dr. Seuss was his pen name.
Dr. Seuss is known for his illustrations and books filled with rhyming words.
He credits his mother for giving him his creative abilities in this regard.
When Dr. Seuss (or Ted as they called him) was a little boy, his mother would recite rhyming chants that she remembered from when she was a little girl. The chants seemed to soothe Ted.
Dr. Seuss was a cartoonist, writer, and illustrator. He wrote and illustrated 44 children's books. These books have been translated into more than 15 languages and have sold over 200 million copies around the world.
Dr. Seuss died on September 24, 1991.
Everything was about Dr. Seuss in the Blue Bear room today. The decorations, stories, puzzles, toys, art, homework, snack and birthday cake all related to Dr. Seuss.
The Cat in the Hat welcomed our Blue Bear friends into the room.
We read three Dr. Seuss books today -- Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and The Cat in the Hat.
At Art Table, they Bears made a Cat-in-the-Hat rhyming word puppet. The words they wrote were at, bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, pat, rat, sat.
The Blue Bears brought in pictures of houses that we could add to our Seussville wall in the hallway. One of the mothers even made Truffula trees to dress up our village.
Reminiscent of the stories they read, the Blue Bears snacked on green eggs and ham and Rainbow Goldfish.
What would a birthday be without a birthday cake and singing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss? The Blue Bears even did that too!

Today you are you! That is truer than true!
There is no one alive who is you-er than you!"
