Greenwood Forest Children’s Center Director

Greenwood Forest Children’s Center (GFCC), a program of the non-profit Greenwood Forest Baptist Church (GFBC), is seeking to hire a Director for GFCC. This is a three-quarter time (30 hours), year-round position. Paid Time Off will be given in addition to holidays, and the amount of PTO will be determined by years of experience, with 3 weeks being the minimum. This position also includes health coverage. The salary range is $32,000-$40,000 per year, depending on experience/qualifications.

College degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. 3-5 years of relevant experience required. Experience as a director or assistant director preferred. NC Early Childhood Administration credentials preferred. Must demonstrate strong leadership, management, and organizational skills. Must have NO criminal convictions for child related offenses, including neglect or abuse.

GFCC has been serving the educational needs of our community for 54 years. The church began GFCC in 1967 as one of the first integrated kindergartens in Cary. We began as a kindergarten before public kindergarten was offered through Wake County Public Schools. We are a diverse school with children and families from many different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Last year, before we had to close our doors because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had 16 classrooms, 200 children enrolled, and 35 staff members. As we open our doors in the fall of 2021, we are seeking a director who can lead us through the challenges of operating safely in light of the pandemic and a director who can provide vision for how GFCC can further align with GFBC’s vision to better meet the needs of our community and our neighbors.

While the preschool is a secular educational program, it is supported by GFBC, which is a religious non-profit. GFBC is an inclusive community of faith, which means that we welcome, affirm, and include all people in their diversity of genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and backgrounds. We expect the director of our childcare center to show commitment to this vision in how they lead and direct the center’s operations. GFCC Director – Position Description

Position Goals:

  • To provide leadership and oversight for the operation of Greenwood Forest Children’s Center (GFCC), a secular preschool program of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church (GFBC). Specifically,

  • To provide oversight to all administrative needs.

  • To provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to the teachers and staff.

  • To provide leadership to the educational programming.

  • To build relationships and maintain communication with parents and students.

  • To maintain and further build relationships with the community.

  • To provide vision for how GFCC can further align with GFBC’s vision to better meet the needs of our community and our neighbors.


Relationships:

  1. Supervised by the GFBC Senior Pastor.

  2. Adheres to direction from the GFBC Personnel Committee.

  3. Receives guidance, input, and direction from the GFCC committee.

  4. Supervises the teachers and all other staff, including the GFCC Office Administrator.

  5. Works collaboratively with the GFCC accountant.

  6. Works with the GFCC teachers and staff to create a safe, compassionate environment for students to learn and grow.

  7. Work with GFBC leadership to ensure that GFCC is helping to fulfill GFBC’s vision of better meeting the needs of our community.


Hours and Benefits:

This is a three-quarter time, year-round position, requiring 30 hours per week for every month of the year. Paid Time Off will be given in addition to holidays, and the amount of PTO will be determined by years of experience, with 3 weeks being the minimum. This position also includes health coverage. GFCC currently operates from late August/September to May. School hours are from 9:00am to 1:00pm.


Qualifications:

College degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. 3-5 years of relevant experience required. Experience as a director or assistant director preferred. NC Early Childhood Administration credentials preferred. Must demonstrate strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day activities at GFCC.

  • Work toward obtaining North Carolina’s 5-star licensure.

  • Formulate a vision for GFCC.

  • Hire, train, evaluate, supervise and dismiss teachers and staff.

  • Provide leadership and supervision of interactions, activities, and materials appropriate for young children’s emotional, social, intellectual and physical development.

  • Plan, manage and monitor GFCC’s finances to ensure resources for a high quality program.

  • Protect and enhance the health and safety of the children and staff at GFCC.

  • Maintain an inviting physical environment which fosters optimal growth and development.

  • Facilitate fair admission and enrollment.

  • Inform and welcome parents as observers and contributors to the program.

  • Provide professional assistance to the GFCC Committee

  • Represent GFCC in the community.

  • Ensure students have access to community resources by maintaining partnerships with Project Enlightenment, Wake County Public Schools, and Dorcas Ministries.

  • Ensure compliance with church’s COVID-19 guidelines and the state’s COVID-19 guidelines for preschool settings.

  • Ensure compliance with the GFBC Abuse Prevention Policy, keeping records and ensuring teachers receive appropriate background checks.
