Cathy Turner

Cathy was born in Virginia but has lived most of her life in North Carolina. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors of arts in English with minors in both Psychology and Dance. 

​

 Cathy then went to Meredith and earned her teaching degree and license in Elementary Ed.  From there she joined the staff at Farmington Woods Elementary before returning to the GFCC staff in 2010, to be a part of the 4's team.  Cathy loves playing different instruments including the guitar, banjo, ukulele, piano, flute, xylophone, spoons, and others. 

​

 Cathy and her husband, Keith, have a son and a daughter...both attended GFCC.  Cathy lives in Pittsboro and is a member of Apex United Methodist Church where she volunteers in children’s choirs and VBS.  In her spare time she enjoys camping, boating, traveling, being with family, and volunteering. 
 

 Cathy is our Music and Creative Movement for all of the age groups in our school.

Music & Movement

​

All students attend Music and Creative Movement. Mrs. Turner creates music experiences that compliment the studies in their classroom.  She will introduce students to songs, chants, introduction to many musical instruments, musical concepts (such as beat, tempo, rests, notes, etc.).  Mrs. Turner also incorporates many vigorous activities for the children, including yoga, workout sessions, games, obstacle courses, movement to music, stretching and bending, core strengthening exercises, and much practice of body awareness and self-control.  Mrs. Turner is also responsible for the musical part of classroom productions for parents:  The 4s End of Year Production and TK Graduation.
